Celebrated on 21st of September worldwide, today Peace Day has become essential in helping people understand the importance of peace. It is for that one day, that the whole ensures that it is calm and nobody is engaged in any quarrels . What peace day has done so well, is to make people aware that peace is possible to maintain. In some areas people are dying for peace as they are sick of the day to day struggles of life they have to face. Peace today needs to be made an important part of life, as people are so busy with their lives that they forget what peace is all about.

A fews days before peace day, we got together with third graders and discussed what peace is all about. With their innocence , and less knowledge about politics and religion , they were still able to understand how peace should affect all of us and how it needs to maintained. In the process of interacting, we also presented to them information regarding the dropping the nuclear bomb in Hiroshima which took millions of innocent lives....After that we spent time reading Sadako and the thousand cranes and then celebrated what peace was all about. The next day, we made paper cranes with the third graders as a method of interacting with them and getting to know them better.
While reflecting on peace, I was forced to look at the circumstances under which the world has chosen to be peaceful. Peace has usually been maintained for a longer time when a war has taken place therefore it would not be wrong to suggest that if there is a war then at least you are guaranteed a few years of peace . After world war II no such conflict was seen thanks to the effects witnessed by those who lived then. So the question to be asking is that is it necessary for war to take place in order for there to be peace for a sustained period?
What is peace- Is it living in harmony or is it the absence of conflict or perhaps, it is both?
PEACE TODAY
Today peace between countries depends on what the need from each other. Each country's foreign policy is determined by their growing needed and not by how they can maintain peace in the world. Perhaps one day , governments of various countries will recognize peace as a manor instrument in helping the world prosper.
